What’s the First Step of Weight Loss

Too often I hear from clients “Where do I start?” when it comes to their health and fitness, but I am here to tell you, the first step is actually FREE and can be done right now with what you have.  

The first step to changing your life is…drumroll please…pay attention to your current habits and lifestyle.  Not as glamorous as I made it seem huh?

The first step is paying attention to your cravings at certain times of the day, what is your mindset during eating, and how you feel after.  Now this can get tricky and involve silence and reflection and let’s be real…in 2018, who has time for that?

But if you’re serious about your goals, you must make reflection a priority.  Why do you feel like you should eat a salad? Is it because a magazine told you to or is it because your craving it?  And believe me, you can crave a salad.

Yes, the donut tastes delicious, but now tune into your body’s cues.  How does your energy level feel one hour post-consumption? Two hours? Three hours?  Did you make it lunch without hunger or were you ravenous by 10am? Did you get a spark of energy only to have a headache and feel sluggish after?

Start to pay attention to what your body is telling you and actually listen.  One easy way to do this is by keeping a little journal with what you’ve ate and how you felt through out the day and then start to look for patterns.  I don’t care if it’s a phone note or an old-fashioned journal. By writing it out, you will bring attention to issues and hopefully their solutions.

Your body is more in tune with your needs than any doctor or nutritionist is.  The problem is we’ve forgotten how to listen to our internal cues. Find silence and they will speak to you again.
